RUTH CHANNING

In my recent prints I’ve tried to evoke the metamorphosis of a female being, into another life form: a woman as a flea, or as a germ, or as a bug, for instance. Like Daphne who turned into a tree, or Ariadne who turned into a spider, my little creatures are female spirits who take another form, in order to escape harassment and gain power.

I find that the medium of printmaking is especially good for this theme- probably due in part to the transformative nature of printmaking itself?
