NANCY SCHEINMAN
SOLO EXHIBITION

OCTOBER 11 - NOVEMBER 18, 2017
Y:ART Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its fifthteenth exhibition and third solo show, featuring the exceptional collage paintings of Nancy Scheinman. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 6pm - 9pm.
Nancy Scheinman fuses beauty, meditation and personal experience in thought provoking paintings; layering patterns and time. Painted, printed, nailed and incised, her paintings relate to medieval artists by boxing sub-text narratives within the space of the main image. Acid washes on hand embossed sheets of copper combined with canvas, bronze wire cloth and etched clear vinyl have been likened to an alchemist’s approach. The spiritual is made visual, as real events and emotional conditions are simultaneously projected onto the landscape. These collages interweave her own chronology yet leave the enigmatic narrative ambiguous. Their hybrid of the mundane and fantastical, imbue her images with mystery and spirituality.

EFFIE GERENY
SOLO EXHIBITION

10 May - 17 June, 2017
Opening Reception on May 13 from 6-9 PM
Y:ART Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its twelfth exhibition and second solo show, featuring the remarkable work of abstract painter Effie Gereny. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 6pm-9pm.
Effie Gereny’s practice is heavily influenced by her travels, most specifically in California, Greece, and Japan. Her memories of light, shape, texture and color from these locations help to inform the content of her work. Her work encompasses a variety of calculated brushstrokes and applications of paint, each adding dimension to the picture plane. Utilizing these techniques, her practice alludes to nature in the form of abstraction rather than imitating nature itself. Her work carries a distinct organic quality while simultaneously feeling pleasantly contrived.

CONSCIOUS MIGRATION

15 February - 25 March, 2017

Conscious Migration assembles three accomplished practices, each contributing a valuable perspective to Y:ART’s seasonal narrative. Paying homage to this natural transition, the exhibition optimistically anticipates the coming of spring. Remembering the turbulence of a frozen landscape, we begin our migration from the deep bitterness of winter toward warmer weather. Cooperatively, the exhibition showcases and acknowledges the elegance of the cold, as it is a testament to the authoritative beauty of nature. Conscious Migration examines the multifaceted value of art, existing cross-disciplinary and influencing every aspect of how we perceive the world.
